I drove two hours round trip for an appointment that ultimately consisted of being handed a piece of paper with a list of practitioners to contact in order to begin charting using the Creighton Model. This information could have easily been sent to me through the patient portal. There was absolutely no medical reason for me to be physically present. Dr. Potocki had sent a portal message the day before my appointment indicating that the visit might not be necessary, but no one from the office clearly communicated this to me or canceled the appointment. I did receive a call from the office, but they did not reiterate Dr. Potocki’s message, so I reasonably assumed I still needed to come in. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the portal message until two weeks later. When I requested a refund for my copay due to the unnecessary visit and travel, I spoke with the office manager, Jennifer, who was extremely rude and dismissive. Rather than acknowledging the breakdown in communication, she focused on defending the charge, stating that I “spent 10 minutes there,” completely ignoring the fact that the appointment itself should never have happened. What was most troubling was that she threatened that the office could bill for messages sent through the patient portal, which is misleading at best. Routine administrative or informational portal messages are not billable medical services, and implying otherwise felt like an attempt to intimidate me into dropping the issue. While Dr. Potocki practices in a niche area of OB-GYN care, patients should be very cautious. The office appears to bill for avoidable visits, including requiring in-person appointments simply to discuss test results—something I have never encountered at major medical systems like Penn, Jefferson, Temple, or other providers I’ve worked with. Poor communication, lack of accountability, and an unpleasant interaction with office management made this an experience I would not repeat or recommend.

Because the Gianna Center of Philadelphia has an 8–12 month wait, many patients cross state lines to be seen here. Instead of respecting the time and expense that comes with that travel, this office required me to drive hours for an appointment that could have been handled by phone, email, or the patient portal. When I raised concerns, the office manager was rude, dismissive, and defensive rather than understanding. The practice appears to bill patients for every possible interaction, including unnecessary in-person visits and even implying that portal questions could be billed. This felt less like patient-centered care and more like taking advantage of people who have limited access to this specialty. If you are considering this practice, be aware that communication is poor, billing is aggressive, and patients’ time and circumstances are not respected.S

What patients should understand is that the Gianna Center will not do IVF or IUI for patients. They will simply treat the underlying diagnosed causes of infertility.I
