I left this appointment and immediately started sobbing in the parking lot. Instead of getting clarity, I felt brushed off and blamed. After experiencing both an ectopic pregnancy…I left this appointment and immediately started sobbing in the parking lot. Instead of getting clarity, I felt brushed off and blamed. After experiencing both an ectopic pregnancy (with surgery and only one remaining fallopian tube) and a chemical pregnancy back to back, along with late ovulation and short luteal phases, I felt completely justified in seeking care from a fertility specialist. At a minimum, I expected a full blood workup to better understand what might be going on, but that was not offered. Instead, it was presented that we “hadn’t been trying long enough.” After two losses, that was incredibly difficult to hear. It left me questioning how many losses someone is expected to go through before it’s considered “long enough” to receive basic evaluation. He made me feel like my ectopic pregnancy was my fault and due to a structural issue, which directly contradicts what my surgeon had previously told me. He also suggested there could be damage to my other fallopian tube without any testing to support that. Several of my concerns, including late ovulation and potential hormone issues, were dismissed. The overall tone felt very much like they felt like us being there was a joke. He also spent time explaining basic ovulation tracking and how to time intercourse, which came across as condescending and out of touch with why I was there. I don't need a basic overview, I needed medical guidance, and it made me feel like my concerns weren't being taken seriously. This is an extremely sensitive and emotional area of care, and patients deserve to feel heard, supported, and taken seriously. Unfortunately, that was not my experience, and I will not be returning.
