Same letters, different calendars.

Hatching plus mixed letter scores can appear when embryos grow at different speeds in the same dish. Confirm the day of score and whether the TE B still met freeze criteria under your lab’s SOP.

Methodology

Gardner-style blastocyst grades describe how an embryo looks under the microscope on the day of freeze or transfer: expansion of the fluid cavity (1–6), quality of the inner cell mass that may become the fetus (A–C), and quality of the trophectoderm that becomes placenta (A–C). Morphology is one planning signal among many. It is not a personal success rate. Clinics differ in how they assign letters, and day-5, day-6, and day-7 embryos can carry the same letter string with different context. Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) clinic reports and peer-reviewed embryology literature discuss morphology alongside age, embryo cohort, and PGT when used — never grade alone as a prediction for your case.

Should I worry about the B in 5AB?

B is a relative lab score, not a public risk grade. Discuss your full list with embryology rather than isolating one letter.

Is day-7 5AB usable?

Some programs freeze day-7 blastocysts when morphology and other criteria allow. Your clinic’s day-7 policy is the authority — not a general website rule.

Does 5AB need genetic testing?

PGT decisions follow medical indications and patient preference, not a single morphology code. Ask about benefits, limits, and mosaic policies if testing is offered.
