He came across as distracted, avoided eye contact, and was not personable. After the appointment, I sent my medical records along with a follow-up email and never received a response. When I called the office, I was told to forward everything again because “Dr. Klein is not good with email.” For the price and importance of fertility treatment, this level of care and professionalism is unacceptable. Dr. Klein is not listed on any reputable “best doctors” lists, and based on my experience, it’s easy to see why. I would strongly suggest seeking care elsewhere.

My priority going into this process was to find a doctor & team who were able to communicate with me (i.e. help me understand each step of the journey) and treat me with humanity. Initially, Dr. Klein seemed like he would be able to provide both of these asks, as he spent an hour with me walking through my specific case and educating me on what I needed to know. I was assigned a patient coordinator, Avigayil, to whom I could ask questions. When I was ready to start, nearly 5 months after the initial meeting, I called Avigayil and got help through a nuanced situation. I appreciated that there was a class for injections, especially as someone who was anxious about needles. However, as the process commenced, I became less enamored with my experience. Through my first 8 days of monitoring, I saw no one except the phlebotomist and the ultrasound technician. A different nurse would call me with instructions every few days after my bloodwork and ultrasound - a quick minute conversation - and any question I had would require follow-up, which didn’t bolster any confidence. Avigayil did not check in. I wanted to know more about why certain decisions were being made, and understand my progress relative to initial expectations. I did not get this. On my ninth day, I was told two different sets of instructions involving the trigger shot, and had to call multiple times (and email Dr. Klein) for clarification. At this point, I hadn’t spoken to or communicated with Dr. Klein directly in over 5 months. A nurse shared that she had asked Dr. Klein to call me, as he should have seen me at least once during my numerous monitoring visits, but I did not get a call, only an email response hours later. Morning of my retrieval, Dr. Klein arrived nearly an hour late to my procedure (I was the first retrieval of the day) and spoke to me for about 30 seconds before heading back to the OR. I’ve had a handful of surgery/procedures through my life, and this was the first time I felt like I was treated like a box to check or a number on a page. A little humanity goes a long way, especially in a field wrapped up in many emotions, but I found little to no humanity here. It’s clear from other reviews that there have been some positive experiences here. However, if I were speaking to a friend, peer or colleague, I would caution them against using Extend Fertility as they risk the experience I had. I also recently had a successful embryo transfer a couple of months ago so I have a long history with this clinic. I have nothing but amazing things to say about the process from start to finish. Their prices are incredible, the entire staff is professional, compassionate, and efficent (coordinators, front desk, doctors and nurses). I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Abittan and Dr. Klein. Both phenomenal doctors. They made me feel safe and heard. Dr. Abittan has this special confidence about him that’s infectious. Both doctors along with their staff made this whole process feel peaceful and easy. Since I had moved out of state after my egg freezing I had to do outside monitoring with a clinic in my state during this process. I tried two different clinics, one was outright terrible and the other one was just okay. They were both almost triple the price of extend for subpar service. It's not easy to be happy at 7am but somehow the Extend staff always is, and that made me look forward to the blood draw/ ultrasound visits! I wasn't even nervous at the first retrieval bc the surgical team was so calm and talked through every step. Plus the nurse the day before sat me down and explained it as well during pre-op paperwork signing. It was exactly as they said 15-20 min and you're up, no pain. Slight discomfort day of and after. And there was some miscommunication during my 2nd cycle and my trigger shot wasn't sent to the pharmacy. But I called the after hours line and one of the nurses was able to resend it. Hey I work in healthcare too, I forget things like sending a prescription so I totally get it. My experience at Extend was top notch. I recommend them unconditionally. I froze my eggs at this clinic 7 years ago when I was 35. At the time, I was very happy with the attention and care I received. The clinic was warm and welcoming, and I Felt that all my questions were answered. The cost was very competitive and I felt secure in my reproductive future when I was able to freeze 12 eggs. However, this feeling of positivity changed when I decided to use the eggs 6 years later. By this time I had moved to Arizona, so the eggs were shipped to a new fertility clinic in the Phoenix area. Once that clinic received the eggs (and knowing my intent to fertilize them), they informed me that the eggs are all "granular" (all 12 of them) and that they therefore had lowered likelihood of yielding viable embryos. They said this as if I already knew it, because the embryologist at Extend Fertility had written "granular" in the notes section next to each egg. However, no one at Extend told ME this; it was just quietly written on my report. Had I known this at the time, I likely would have undergone a second egg retrieval. I contacted someone from Extend to voice my frustration about this; these eggs had been my insurance policy, so to speak, and now at 41 years old I was learning someone at Extend knew they looked like poor quality, wrote this on my report, but did not tell me. The doctor at Extend said that there is no evidence granular eggs is a significant factor to note; however, as my fertility doctor in Phoenix pointed out - if that is the case, why was it, in fact, noted? My fertility doctor in Phoenix said if he had a patient with granular eggs, he would let that patient know. I wish Extend had done that for me. Ultimately, I was left with the decision of if I did or did not want to spend thousands of dollars to fertilize eggs that had a lowered likelihood of success. My fertility clinic in Phoenix offered me an experimental procedure that was half the cost of fertilizing these questionable eggs, so I went that route, and my beautiful baby boy is beside me as I type this. So I don't type out of anger or animosity - thankfully, my story ended well. But I write this as a warning to to others that your experience at Extend might be great in the moment, but years from now when you want to actually use the eggs you froze, you might discover bad news.This was an extremely intricate process. The appointment scheduling and my time there was seamless. I have no complaints about the staff as they were all very professional. In fact, after my lab work and examination, I met with a young lady before I left the office who confirmed that the lab work would be sent to my in network provider, which is common practice there. Thus, I left well pleased with my experience and looking forward to starting the process of freezing my eggs, but for COVID-19. However, a month later I received a bill for over one hundred and fifty dollars for out of network lab work. I had email conversations with staff who acknowledged their policy of billing at in network rate but no one honored my request to reduce the bill amount given it was human error, which happens (no one is perfect). I was referred to billing who referred me to the lab company, yet no one honored my request. It has been a frustrating experience because rectifying this error is based on principle and as a business owner myself, I would have gladly reduced the bill for one of my customers. I am disappointed that I am stuck having to pay this much higher bill due to error from staff who did not honor what was presented in writing prior to my consultation and confirmed by others several times afterwards.
