At Patriot Conceptions, we believe that every surrogacy journey tells a powerful story of hope, compassion, and new beginnings. Today, we're excited to share insights from our recent episode of The Surrogacy Scoop podcast, featuring an extraordinary mother-daughter duo who bring a unique perspective to the surrogacy experience.
Introducing Our Special Guests
Our host CJ had the pleasure of sitting down with Aaliyah, a 27-year-old mother of two and one of our dedicated surrogate coordinators at Patriot Conceptions. What makes Aaliyah's story particularly special is that she's not only a guide for other surrogates—she's completed two surrogacy journeys herself and is currently embarking on her third!
Joining Aaliyah for this heartwarming conversation was her 6-year-old daughter, A'mirah, who offered a rare and precious glimpse into surrogacy through a child's eyes.
Aaliyah's Surrogacy Journey
Aaliyah's path to becoming a surrogate began with inspiration from a family friend. Having grown up helping care for her mother's foster children and becoming an aunt at a young age, Aaliyah always had a natural inclination toward nurturing others. After experiencing the profound joy of motherhood with her own children, she felt called to help others experience that same incomparable love.
"When I held my babies for the first time, I felt a love like nothing else," Aaliyah shared. "I couldn't imagine not being able to experience that feeling, and I knew I wanted to help make it possible for others who couldn't have children on their own."
Her first surrogacy journey in 2021-2022 matched her with a single father who dreamed of having a baby girl. The experience was transformative for both Aaliyah and the intended parent, who was overjoyed to welcome his daughter into the world.
In 2023-2024, Aaliyah embarked on her second journey, this time helping a single mother who had struggled with infertility due to fibroids. Throughout the pregnancy, Aaliyah provided constant reassurance through updates, ultrasound pictures, and videos, knowing how precious each moment was for someone who had never experienced a successful pregnancy before.
"Seeing the look on her face when she held her baby boy for the first time—that's something I'll never forget," Aaliyah reflected. "Those moments make every challenge worth it."
Today, Aaliyah is proudly carrying a sibling for the same family from her second journey, helping them grow their family further.
A'mirah's Perspective: Surrogacy Through a Child's Eyes
Perhaps the most touching aspect of our podcast episode was hearing from 6-year-old A'mirah, who has witnessed her mother's surrogacy journeys from a unique vantage point.
Initially, A'mirah was confused about why the babies her mother carried weren't coming home with them. "I thought all babies came home," she said with the innocent directness only a child can offer. Over time, however, she came to understand that her mom was doing something special—helping families who couldn't have children on their own.
A'mirah shared a particularly memorable moment from her mother's second journey: "Mommy almost had the baby in the car!" she exclaimed, recalling how she tried to comfort her mother during labor. Today, A'mirah beams with pride when talking about her mother's work, understanding at her young age the importance of helping others.
Balancing Challenges and Rewards
Surrogacy isn't without its challenges, and Aaliyah spoke candidly about navigating both the physical demands—like progesterone injections and the toll of pregnancy—and the emotional aspects of the journey.
"You have to prepare mentally to avoid attachment while still celebrating every milestone," she explained. "It's about finding that balance between being fully present in the pregnancy while remembering your purpose."
For Aaliyah, juggling her responsibilities as a mother, including school drop-offs and homework help, with the demands of surrogacy has been a balancing act. Yet the rewards far outweigh the challenges.
"When I see the families holding their babies for the first time, I feel like a superhero," she shared. "There's nothing quite like knowing you've helped create a family."
Wisdom for the Surrogacy Journey
For women considering becoming surrogates, Aaliyah offers this advice: "Prepare yourself mentally and emotionally. Balance your excitement for the process with the understanding that this baby is a precious gift you're carrying for someone else. And be patient—surrogacy requires commitment and dedication, but the end result is worth every moment."
A'mirah's advice for other children whose mothers are surrogates is equally heartwarming: "Be nice to your mom because her tummy gets big and she needs help sometimes. And remember she's doing something special to help other people have babies."
The Impact of Surrogacy on Family
One of the most beautiful outcomes of Aaliyah's surrogacy journeys has been the impact on her own children. Through her example, A'mirah and her younger brother are learning invaluable lessons about empathy, selflessness, and the many ways families can be formed.
"I want my children to understand that helping others is one of the greatest gifts we can give," Aaliyah said. "If they grow up with that understanding, I'll have done my job as a mother."
As both a surrogate and a surrogate coordinator at Patriot Conceptions, Aaliyah brings a depth of personal experience to her role, supporting other surrogates through their own journeys with empathy and insight that can only come from walking the path herself.
A Message of Hope
As our conversation with Aaliyah and A'mirah drew to a close, the overwhelming message was one of hope and the profound impact one person's selflessness can have on multiple lives.
"Surrogacy isn't just about carrying a baby," Aaliyah reflected. "It's about carrying hope, dreams, and the future of a family. There's no greater privilege."
At Patriot Conceptions, we're honored to support amazing women like Aaliyah and to help create these beautiful connections between surrogates and intended parents. Every journey is unique, but each is bound by the common threads of compassion, dedication, and love.
