step 4:
The medical
cycle
Medication
Your latest menstrual period typically marks the start of your egg donor cycle. To stimulate egg development, you'll begin a series of injectable medications, which will continue until approximately 36 hours before the egg retrieval. The medical center will provide you with detailed instructions on how to administer the medication and what to expect.
Appointments
During the process, you’ll attend about six to seven morning appointments at the fertility center’s IVF unit to monitor your progress and ensure your ovaries are responding properly. These appointments usually take around 30 to 45 minutes. Be sure to stay in regular contact with the nursing staff and your Match Manager to keep everything on track.
2-3 Weeks
step 5:
Egg retrieval
As with any surgical procedure, you’ll need someone to accompany you to the clinic, stay with you, and take you home after the egg retrieval, which is done under sedation. During the procedure, the physician will carefully retrieve the eggs.
Plan to be at the IVF center for about three hours on the day of the retrieval, though the procedure itself only lasts 20-30 minutes. Afterward, you may feel some fatigue and cramping, so it’s best to spend the rest of the day resting at home.
By the next day, you should be able to resume light or normal activities. However, avoid anything strenuous—like working out or heavy lifting—until your physician gives you the go-ahead.
